Thermo Scientific quality reagents are compatible with Orbeco, Hach, and Chemetrics chemistries.For centuries scientists have used a colorimetric reagent to determine quality in compounds. Technology has made using a colorimetric reagent a bit easier but no less potent. Colorimetry tests are quick and easy and often cost less than alternative test methods. A colorimeter is an optical measurement that uses color to quantitatively determine the concentration of a compound in a sample. A colorimetric reagent for the compound of interest is added to the sample being tested. A color will develop in proportion to the level of compound present, and can be measured by the instrument. Many parameters have EPA approval and meet the regulatory requirements for many industries. 

Choose from single parameter or multiparameter colorimeters to meet your application. The process is founded upon Beer’s Law; which describes the relationship between the amounts of light transmitted and the concentration of the sample. The typical instrument used in this process has one or more fixed wavelengths–to match the maxima (strong peak) of the components spectrum. In free chlorine the DPD spectrum has a maxima peak near 520nm, the wavelength for the test.
